

Southern California, with over a hundred miles of sun-drenched white
sand beaches, is undoubtedly one of the world's greatest beach areas.
La Jolla Shores
La Jolla Shores, approximately one mile long is located at 8200
Camino del Oro. In the summertime you'll find the most gentle waves
in all San Diego area beaches. There are adjacent areas that are
great for picnics and family gatherings.
La Jolla Shores lies adjacent to the San Diego La Jolla Underwater
Ecological Reserve. Fishing and removal of objects from this area
is prohibited. Scripps Institute of Oceanography and Scripps Pier
are at the north end of this beach. This pier is not open to the
public, but the Steven Birch Aquarium is within 1/2 mile of La Jolla
Shores and is open daily.
La Jolla Shores has the only beachfront boat launch within City
limits. Small vessels can be launched directly into the surf at
the foot of Avenida de la Playa, approximately 300 yards south of
the lifeguard station.
La Jolla Cove
La Jolla Cove located at 1100 Coast Boulevard
is a very small beach that is tucked between adjacent sandstone
cliffs. La Jolla Cove is one of the most photographed beaches in
Southern California. It is within a short walk of the commercial
area of the community of La Jolla.
Water visibility can exceed 30 feet at the Cove which makes it a
great spot for snorklers and scuba divers. La Jolla Cove lies within
the San Diego La Jolla Underwater Park Ecological Reserve, which
helps to ensure that marine life remains plentiful.
Windansea
Windansea Beach located at 6800 Neptune
Place has a rocky shore. Sandstone rocks act as partitions along
the beach offering a very secluded atmosphere for sunbathing.
Pacific Beach
The two mile stretch of Pacific Beach is
located just south of Crystal Pier. Also know as the The Strand,
Mission Beach lies directly adjacent to the residential and commercial
areas of the Pacific Beach and Mission Beach communities. It is
the most popular beach in the City of San Diego and draws large
crowds in summer.
Various shops, restaurants, and beach rental outfits can be found
all along the beach.
Mission Bay Beaches
Mission Bay Park consists of 4,600 acres,
approximately half land and half water. There are 27 miles of shoreline,
19 of which are sandy beaches.
Mission Beach
Mission Beach is the center of a continuous
stretch of beach known as The Strand, which extends over two miles,
beginning at the Mission Bay channel entrance and ending at the
north end of Pacific Beach. The Strand is the most popular beach
area in the City of San Diego.
South Mission Beach
South Mission Beach is bordered on the south by the Mission Bay
Channel. It is known as a popular place to engage beach volleyball
and basketball and over-the-line softball.
Ocean Beach
Ocean Beach located at 1950 Abbott Street.
This is a wide beach approximately one mile long. Play volleyball
near the north end of the beach.
The Ocean Beach Municipal Pier is at the south end of the beach
and is available to the public. There is a restaurant and bait shop
on the pier. Fishing from the pier does not require a fishing license,
but catch regulations are enforced.
One unique feature of Ocean Beach is Dog Beach.
This is a sandy area located at the north end of the beach where
dogs are permitted without a leash at all hours of the day. Dog
owners are responsible for control and clean-up of their dogs.
